Athabasca Falls

One of the most spectacular sights on the Athabasca River system, the falls have changed very little since the first Europeans viewed its splendor nearly 200 years ago. The step in the valley floor was formed by the glacier that once occupied the Athabasca Valley. This narrow gorge of quartz and sandstone is cut back only a few millimetres each year by the rushing water.
