Athabasca Glacier - Columbia Icefield - (The Toe), Icefields Parkway
The Columbia Icefield is the largest of the chain of icefields along the Great Divide. This 325 square kilometre accumulation of ice feeds eight large glaciers, three of which are visible from the Icefields Parkway; the Athabasca, the Dome and the Stutfield Glacier.
This is the visual high point of the Icefields Parkway. An access trail takes you to an interpretive trail leading to the toe of the Athabasca Glacier. The Icefield Centre offers information, exhibits and special interpretive events. (Open June to October) Commercial services include Snowcoach rides on the Athabasca Glacier, cafeteria, restaurant and service station. (May to September)
